Booking a flight for your Dog

Updated: Jan 4, 2022

A dog is not carry on luggage. You need to buy a "ticket" for your dog which is linked to your boarding pass. This will allow you to stow the dog under the seat in front of you, they must be under 20 lbs (9kg) or less depending on the airline.

Dog Seat

You can purchase an extra ticket for the seat next to you if you wish to put the dog carrier on the seat, however the pooch must stay inside the carrier. This is usually not necessary but if you want the added space & comfort, go for it. We also know some pet owners that prefer to fly private charter for added comfort. This is a great option especially if you are travelling with others, the team at NetJets can do a wonderful job answering your questions.

Dog Travel Documents

The good news is that you do not need a passport for your dog. However, you will need a certificate from your veterinarian that they are fit to fly. You might also be asked for vaccination records so it is good to have all that information with you for customs officers. We highly recommend scheduling an appointment with your veterinarian the week before you fly to ask them for all paperwork & medications.

Online Check In

If you are used to swiftly arriving in the airport, whipping through security, and zooming through the terminal, life is different with a dog. Most notable, you must see an agent to get your boarding pass. Often they will want to see how your dog fits in your carrier before even passing security. Give yourself an extra 30-60 minutes so that your travel experience is as calm as possible.
