When travelling with your dog you envision playing on the white sand beach then settling down for a margarita in the sun. To reach that destination you have to complete a journey and there is one nagging question on many traveler's minds, "Where is my dog going to go pee?"

When you arrive at the airport, this is the last chance for a comfortable outdoor pee. Airports are often anxious places so it is important you take the time to ensure your pet has "vacated" before you go any further. There is always a fine balance between arriving at the airport too early and being in a panic running for your plane. Know your pet and arrive with enough time to keep your stress levels down, there is no need for either of you to have excess anxiety.
After you check in and go through security most airports have a Pet Relief Area. I once envisioned a door to a small outdoor courtyard where dogs could sniff around, maybe make a friend, and relieve themselves before the flight. Sadly, this is not what a Pet Relief Area is like.
If you have ever been to a pubic swimming pool changeroom, picture one of the shower stalls with fake grass and an unbearable stench of urine. We have visited those rooms many times and our dog has never peed in them. Another idea is to lay down a disposable absorbent pee pad, check out these Wee Wee pads. These take some practice so you should use them at home before you start your journey.
As you prepare for boarding, it's time to put your dog in the carrier where they will remain for the duration of the flight. It is a good idea to keep them a little dehydrated so they don't soil themselves in the crate. Dogs have an amazing ability to hold it longer than we give them credit for.
Upon arrival, you often have to clear customs (if needed) and collect your checked luggage before getting outside for a final destination relief. Our very first flight was to Arizona where our pup met a cactus for the first time. It was a rude meeting but he laid claim to the cactus by marking it eventually. Travel is about new experiences so hopefully your journey can start as comfortably as possible.
